Cynthia began her career as a model New York. Her first contract was with Wihelmina Models. This led to her appearance on the cover of Essence Magazine. In addition to being Cynthia's initial cover with Essence one of the top-selling covers ever published by the magazine, it was also the personal choice of editor-in-chief Susan Taylor. Cynthia got her second cover shortly after, and this set the scene for her successful career. After that, she relocated towards Paris and Milan in which she appeared in the fashion shows of Paris Fashion Week and Milan Fashion Week. Cynthia moved to New York City after living abroad for nearly a year. Her campaign comprised Maybelline Oil of Olay Macy's. Elle's, Glamour's Essence's, Vanity Fair magazine editorials soon were followed. Cynthia was a major career success in the year she was chosen ahead of Naomi Campbell as Sandra Bernhadt's co-star in "Without You I Am Nothing".
